Wellbeing a vital student issue
Accountancy students need to look seriously at creating an environment that breeds wellbeing and resilience if they want to succeed, says leading tutor Mike Pennington. That way they will be able to cope with what life throws at them, he said. First Intuition’s Pennington recalled invigilating a CIMA exam just last year when a student fainted half way through. The student had to abandon the exam. And, the reason for this fail? “I forgot to eat”.
Pennington said the brain needs to be fed a nutritional diet to perform at its best and that means shunning crisps and fast food and and eating more fresh fruit and vegetables.
The ICAEW and CABA (the Chartered Accountants’ Benevolent Association) also understand the importance of wellbeing. They are dedicating a week to ACA students’ wellbeing – from 19–23 October. PQs can access great resources from Monday 19 October at icaew.com/studentwellbeingweek.
