Staff ‘too young and raw’
09 October 2018
HM Treasury staff are often “too young and inexperienced” to make good decisions about where the best place is to spend taxpayers money, claims the Institute for Government.
The think tank says now is the time for the Treasury to ditch its dependency on ‘generalists’ and to professionalise staff. It should do this, says the institute, even if it means raising pay.
Latest stats show that the average age of a Treasury official is 31 and one in four staff leaves the department every year.
