Tax offices in France under siege
07 December 2018
Tax offices in a dozen French towns have been attacked by yellow vest demonstrators.
They are the latest target of the grass-root movement.
The tax office in Rion was burnt down and an email sent from the “gilets jaunes”.
Another tax office was petrol bombed and 200 workers in Poitiers had to be given a police escort, with a crowd shouting “fascist collaborators” at them.
The tax offices have become a target because from 1 January France switches to a pay-as-you-earn system that it is claimed will reduce everyone’s monthly take home pay. Under the current system in France taxpayers receive their pay gross of tax and pay income tax the next year after filing an annual return.
More violence is expected in Paris this weekend.
