It's village life for Deloitte recruits
As part of a new initiative with Get Living London, more than 40 of Deloitte’s 2015 graduate intake have moved into East Village (the former Athletes’ Village at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park).
The scheme gives graduates joining Deloitte the opportunity to choose between newly furnished two- or three-bedroom apartments with exemption from credit checks and the benefit of Get Living London’s ‘no-fees’ approach.
The graduates will also receive two weeks’ rent free and free broadband. Deloitte has organised events and social media forums to help the newcomers meet up before they start and find a flatmate.
The move follows a Deloitte survey that found 86% of graduates joining it said they would like help from the firm to find suitable shared accommodation.
Deloitte’s James Ferguson said: “Some 5% of our graduate intake last year found the city’s housing costs so prohibitive they had to share a bedroom, while others lived in property where communal living space had been converted into an additional bedroom to make renting more affordable.”
Meanwhile, new research from the London School of Economics found the cost of housing is pricing many young graduates out of London altogether. Those from poorer backgrounds are most likely to miss out, potentially losing out of top jobs such as accountancy! The study found the number of 25 to 34 year olds in shared accommodation has also increased by 28% in the past decade. The answer could be more housing schemes, such as student-style accommodation, to help graduates get a foothold. It seems Deloitte is ahead of the game.
