Assad niece’s accounts frozen

The niece of the Syrian president, Aniseh Chawkat, has had her London Barclays account seized after it was used for money-laundering to avoid sanctions.
She forfeited the £25,000 found in the account.
Chawkat is in England on a student visa, given to her 5 years ago, despite the fact that her father Assef being the former head of Syrian military intelligence. She lives in a £60,00 a year apartment in Knightsbridge, west London and is currently studying a post-graduate course at Regent’s College.
The National crime Agency (NCA) found that £151,000 had been paid into her account via 56 cash deposits made around the country in 2017 and 2018.
