A prosecution first

10 April 2018

Company director, Kevin Brewer, has been fined 12,000 for deliberately falsifying information when setting up several companies.

Brewer incorporated John Vincent Cable Services Limited in 2013 and made the Liberal Democrat leader, Vincent Cable, a director and shareholder without his knowledge. Companies House took action when the deception was discovered and the business was dissolved and removed from its register.

He then formed another company in 2016, Cleverly Clogs Limited making Baroness Neville-Rolfe (the minister responsible for Companies House), James Cleverly MP and Ibrahim Aman (an imaginary Israeli national) all directors and shareholders without their knowledge. Again Companies House dissolved the company.

It is thought that Brewer is the first company director to be successfully prosecuted for falsifying company information under laws, which came into effect in 2009. He pleaded guilty to breaking section 1112 of the Companies Act 2006, which sets out the criminal offence of providing false information on the company register.
